The New Rockin Metal Revival Show

The "New" Rockin Metal RevivaL Show - Interview w/DJ and Radio Host "Red" my favorite metal head.

I was surfin' through the internet awhile back looking for online radio stations to interview for the band I do promo work called The Screamin' Lords when Red from the Red and Jerry's Rockin' Metal Revival Show emailed me back and said he was definitely interested in interviewing the band and to send him a CD. That is why I love MySpace so much… It's because, you can get a taste of what bands are about with just a quick click on a forwarding link to the their interactive site. It's all there… The better the layout the better the experience for the user and then BAM! They buy your CD! Or, the site helps get you an online interview with such shows as Red & Jerry's Hard Rockin' Metal Slaying Show. By the way folks, you can also pick up the old shows on YouTube for a listen.

Red is from the small beautiful town of Milton, Wisconsin in the southern part of the state where the Black Hawk Indians once roamed and home of the Ice Age Trails of North America. Milton has everything all small town needs in this picturesque part of the country. Little did Milton town folks know that one of their very own would be broadcasting his own very popular metal show someday.

Check out just some of the legends Red has interviewed over the years.

So… as you can see, Red has hosted shows with some of the best musicians in the business. Of course, after doing this awhile, you begin to gain a lot of clout in the music business. You have to check out the show for yourself to hear what I'm saying ya dig…

So without further ado, let me introduce you to my man and Hard Rockin' Metal aficionado Red.

Red and Don Dokken

Riffmaster – Hey Red, What's up my man?

Red – Hey bro, just working on getting the "New" Rockin Metal Revival(a href="http://www.rmrshow.com">www.rmrshow.com ) ready for broadcast. As you might or might not know my original podcast partner Jerry's wife got an incredible job in Portland, Oregon. And since that's too far for me to commute. I decided to carry on the torch with my friends Andy and Jim Bob. So I've been buying equipment and lining up guests....So not much really!!!LOL

Riffmaster - I was checkin' out your "Rockin' Metal Revival Site" and I see that you have met with many of my rock legends. How does one go about finding and setting up these interviews? Do you go after the artist, or are your shows so famous now, artist management is contacting you?

Red – When we started MySpace was a god sent for us! But with the help of Neeley and Chris Aiken from "The Classic Metal Show", and from radio contacts I've made over the years. I've been able to get in touch with Publicists and management companies who are happy that we are willing to promote their artists.

Riffmaster - Out of all the rock stars you have met, who personally has lived up to your expectations and has touched your life in one way or the other?

Red – Well the Coolest thing that Rockin Metal Revival has allowed me to do is meet my guitar hero Ace Frehley!! Being a KISS fan since 76 I've seen KISS in concert 45 times but had never met him. So when I got the Opportunity to have my "Ace Solo Face" tattoo signed by him I was floored. So that had to be the coolest thing. But Over the past couple of years I've become friends with some of the people I've met through the show. I've become friends with the band Naked Beggars, and talk to Eric Brittingham(Cinderella) on a regular basis. I also can count on BillLeverty (Firehouse), Troy Patrick Farrell(White Lion), Jani Lane(Warrant), Dave Rude(Tesla), and Alex Grossi(Quiet Riot) if I need somebody for the show. Pretty much everyone we've had on the show has been cool. Just some more than others.

Riffmaster – Give our readers a breakdown of how the show came about. I'm sure there is a neat story there…

Red - Well I've worked in radio for 22 years and most of it has been playing country music. And being a Metalhead at heart, I was talking to my friend Jerry Swanson about doing a Hard Rock/Metal internet radio show. He asked me if I'd ever heard "The Classic Metal Show". And at that time I hadn't so I checked it out. And they were in a class by themselves, but I wanted to do something that was three hours in length and featured the Hard Rock/Metal bands of the past thirty years and what they are doing now. So Jerry got ahold of Chris and Neeley and worked out all the Technical issues. And I went to work on writing the promo's and getting ahold of the artists for interviews and liners. And from that point on Jerry handled all the technical end and I handled all the PR and setting up of interviews. You can check out our old shows at rockinmetalrevival.com or the interviews are on itunes.

Riffmaster – Now where does the funds come from to make this operation click in good fashion as it does? Is it voluntary or what?

Red – For the "Red & Jerry" show we split it right down the middle between the two of us. But now I guess I'm playing the part of the bank! LOL

Riffmaster – Tell us a little bit about the shows transition over the years… Where you came from, where you are now, and where you are going with the show in the future…

Red – Well when we first started out we were more of a "Hair Metal" show. And we felt that there were alot of "Hair Metal" shows already on the internet. So we slowly started to progress out into more of a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal show that we are now. And will continue to be once the new "Rockin Metal Revival" is reborn!!

Riffmaster – Ok, you got me… Now that I've seen your rare pictures with Ace Frehley, I'm going to be very honest here… I'm also a major Kiss / Space Ace fan. There, I just had to get that off my chest, now we can proceed. So Red, what was it like personally meeting Ace?

Red w/my Legend Ace Frehley of Kiss

Red - Over the years I've met a ton of musicians and Famous people. But meeting Ace was the coolest thing I've ever done in this business!! He signed my Tattoo, and talked to me for a couple minutes. It was more than I could have ever imagined!! I really wanted him to sign my epiphone but I was told he wouldn't sign guitars anymore because they all end up on ebay! I can't imagine selling a signed Ace Frehley guitar, but that's me!

Riffmaster – Back to the show… How many hours a week does it take to put this all together for the metal listening masses?

Red- I actually work on it everyday sending emails, making calls, but really when we sit down to do the show it takes around four hours, maybe more depending on the show

Riffmaster – I'm sure you've had some uncomfortable & weird moments while interviewing some of the guys/girls huh? Ya know, Spinal Tap kinda thing…

Red – Everyone has been really cool. Some are more talkative than others. I remember Jerry being all jacked up about interviewing Michael Whilton from Queensryche. And when we got him on the phone there were alot of quick short answers. He was cool but not real talkative. Which doesn't work for a radio interview!!LOL

Riffmaster – Red, have you ever had a rude artist on the show? I hear some of these cats are really stuck on themselves while others are pretty cool, or funny, etc.

Red – Not one Rude artist at all!!! I mean people kept telling us how difficult it would be to interview Sebastian Bach, Steven Pearcy, and Jani Lane. And to be honest with you they were all great guys and would have them on the show anytime. We have yet to run into any attitude which is cool. Because all we are trying to do is help promote their projects. Because we all know that commercial radio has their pay for play artists and the rest don't get heard from at all.

Red w/ Andy

Riffmaster – Please tell our readers what your high school years were like, and what the soundtrack would be to sum up your senior year in High school.

Red – High School was cool for me. I rocked the mullet!LOL!!! Played some high school basketball and partied alot and went to a ton of shows with my friends at Alpine Valley (East Troy, WI). I've been into KISS since the first time I heard them so Animalize and Asylum played on that soundtrack. Along with Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Ozzy, Van Halen, Def Leppard. But I was also into Bon Jovi's first Album, RATT, Vandenberg, and Motley Crue.

Riffmaster – So Red, what are you listening to a lot of these days?

Red – Well Of Course I'm listening to Screamin Lords! Along with the new DOKKEN, Sebastian Bach, and Judas Priest. I'm also really into Jorn Lande, Dream Evil, and I've been listening to alot of old Iron Maiden.

Riffmaster – Dream Car?

Red – A 1972 Chevelle SS- Deep Blue

Riffmaster – Why?

Red – I Love the Old Muscle Cars, and that was one that a friend of mine had in High School and I've always wanted to have one of my own.

Riffmaster – Name some folks you would love to get on the show… Who have you had to pull teeth to get on the show? Inquiring minds want to know….

Red – I would love to get one of the four original members of KISS on the show. Especially Ace or Paul Stanley. I'd also like to get Ronnie James Dio as I consider him one of the fore fathers of Metal. And since I couldn't be there for the Rob Halford interview I'd like to have him on the show again.

Riffmaster – Lastly, please give our readers one last parting shot across the bow… What is Red going to be doing in 5 years?

Red – Hopefully still doing "Rockin Metal Revival"!! I love doing the show!! And I love playing great tunes that either introduce someone to a band they haven't heard of before. Or bring back a cool memory for someone by playing something classic! I also hope to finally learn how to play the guitar!!

Riffmaster – I would like to thank you for your time and candor with my loyal readers and keep on fighting the good fight to bring us the best rock show on the net.
