Picking Techniques
Picking Techniques - Heather Faulkner >
I can remember when I first began playing guitar how frustrating it was to have a lack of speed and dexterity. Here are some great exercises that will literally improve your playing in months.
Hold the pick the with your index finger curled in back of it and your thumb in front of the pick(your finger and thumb will appear to look like the shape of a snail if you are doing this correctly). This will give you more control over what you are playing.
Try playing 16th notes going up and down the strings. Use a metronome everyday and each increase the speed. I have found that using a Dunlop Jazz Three pick gives me the maximum amount of speed.
Try to keep your wrist straight and use your forearm when picking, this will give you an insane amount of speed!!!!
Also use chromatic scales going up and down the neck to coordinate your left hand with your right hand.
Once you have mastered this technique try to alternate between using your wrist and forearm. I use my wrist with allot of my blues picking but I use my forearm when I am playing fast metal leads.
