"The following are my pick of CD’s you need to own if you don’t already. Some of them new, some of them old. Keep in mind this is only my opinion, but I like to think I’m right…deep down."
VOIVOD KATORZ 4 STARZ - BIOGRAPHY Respected. Influential. Sometimes difficult, usually godlike, always amazing. Voivod is possibly the most creative band to master the metal form. For the band who keeps fans on the edge of their seats, the band who consistently delivers, 2003 will be a landmark year. It marks entry into their third decade. It marks the band's 13th full-length album. It welcomes back a key member and brings into the fold a man of ability and experience. 2003 will be a year of vindication for everyone - band and fans - as their latest offering, the 13-song monster simply titled Voivod, carries on the tradition of moving metal forward into new dimensions.
2003 represents the strongest Voivod lineup yet: ever-present members Away (Michel Langevin, drums) and Piggy (Denis D'Amour, guitar) are joined by original vocalist Snake (Denis Belanger) and longtime friend/noise conspirator Jasonic (Jason Newsted - formerly of Metallica). Product Description The follow-up to 2003's "Voivod", "Katorz" is the first album in the band's 20-plus-year career that did not feature founding guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour working alongside his bandmembers in the studio. D'Amour died August 26, 2005 in a Montreal hospital from complications of advanced colon cancer. In order to record "Katorz", singer Denis "Snake" Belanger, drummer Michael "Away" Langevin, and bassist Jason "Jasonic" Newsted utilized all of the guitar parts that Piggy had recorded for the record on his laptop with ProTools before his death.

Hot on the heels of their shock UK No. 1 single "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor", Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not confirms Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys as the UK underground's most proselytizing young preachers of the DIY gospel. Marrying nervy, caffeine-and-cigarettes indie clatter to conversational, pretense-free lyrics and the occasional burst of off-the-cuff eloquence ("No time for Montagues or Capulets/Just banging tunes and DJ sets," proffers "Dancefloor"), it's an instant, pulse-racing hit.
No question, the Monkeys are more sinners than saints. The opening "The View from the Afternoon" predicts a ruckus with a whole lot more grit than the Kaisers can muster, while on the mellow "Riot Van," a tale of underage drinking and cop-baiting culminates in a messy beating in the back of a station wagon. Look beyond the Arctics' bristly, laddish exterior, however, because it's actually affairs of the heart that comprise this album's secret core: see the sweaty-palmed "Dancing Shoes," bearing testament to the trial of nerves that is pulling in a suburban indie nightclub, or "Mardy Bum"--a tribute to a moody girlfriend that, for all its witty barbs ("I've seen your frown and it's like looking down the barrel of a gun"), is tinted with sweet affection. --Louis Pattison

Genre: Piano Pop Rock Synopsis: Andrew McMahon, from the band Something Corporate, side project. A great blend of piano pop, with drums from everybody’s favorite Tommy Lee. Songs to check out: Bruised Into the Airwaves

Band: Houston Calls CD Title: A Collection of Short Stories Label: Rushmore Records Band Website: Houston Calls.com Genre: Punk/Pop You’ll like them if you like: Blink 182, The Hippos, The Cars About:Straight up power pop/punk/rock music with synthesizers in the background. Not re-inventing the wheel, but great catchy songs all the way through, that make you feel good inside. Standout Tracks:

Band: Lucero CD Title: Nobody’s Darlings Label: Liberty and Lament Band Website:www.lucero.com Genre: Alt-Country/Rock You’ll like them if you like: Uncle Tupelo, Son Volt, Creedence Clearwater Revival About: Dirty country rock the way it should be. Not only is the music spectacular, but the lyrics and are extremely well crafted and amazing. Standout Tracks:
Band: Spoon CD Title: Gimme Fiction Label: Merge Records Band Website: www.spoontheband.com Genre: Alternative/Indie Rock You’ll like them if you like: Music in general!! (Beatles, Prince, Stones) About: This album jumps genres on practically every song, but each son is well crafted, and infectious as hell! Standout Tracks:
