Jeff Carlson Interview Questions.

Scott - Tell us a little bit about yourself and the band members...

Jeff - Myself- I'm Jeff Carlson, and I love writing music, lyrics, and performing. I'm originally from West Plains, Missouri, and later moved to Springfield, Missouri.   I've been performing onstage since I was literally 12 years old.

The first 3 songs I ever did onstage were,

1.Smokin' In The Boys Room-(Motley Crue version..lol),

2. We're Not Gonna Take It-(Twisted Sister) and

3. Too Young To Fall In Love-(Motley Crue).

It was for a talent show and we got 2nd place to a girl whirling around a baton! Lol! I moved to Las Vegas in 1997. My band members are Robbie Wolfe-(Lead Guitar and harmony vocals), Cory Kay-(Bass, background vocals), and Mike Mitlyng-(Drums, background vocals).  Robbie was in a band in the mid eighties called "Holy Soldier" and they were on the L.A. Sunset Strip circuit with a really big following at the time. They were coming up when Stryper hit it big.  Cory and Mike have both been in several Las Vegas based bands who have done pretty well in the Las Vegas club scene.  Robbie, and Cory and I used to play together when I originally moved to Las Vegas, and formed a band by the name of Angel Park, which later became Liquid Skye. Fast forward to June 1st of 2018, and we're back playing together again...hence the name of our new E.P. "Second Chance."

Scott - How would describe the type of music that you play?

Jeff - The type of music we play is basically hard rock that's derived from our influences from the 70's, and 80's with an updated production for today's formats. We write from the heart, and really try to put thought and movement into our songs with vibe and conviction.

Scott - Do you have a record label promoting your music? How does that relationship work for your business model?

Jeff - We have a record label, Potomac records, but it's basically a distribution deal, and they use the Orchard for the distribution, which is one of the biggest distribution companies in the world. Unfortunately, the label doesn't really do much promoting, so it's really up to me to do all of the promotion, but we've just signed on with Big Noise out of Rhode Island, and they are working with us to get us to the next level as far as major management, and major label interest, so as of right now, it's all a work in progress. As far as Potomac working for our business model at this point in time, it's actually a great starting point for us, because I get to keep all of my masters because there is no money being put out on me from them, so the trade off is they let me keep all of my masters of my recordings.

Scott - Do you have a booking agent and or a manager? How did you meet them and how do those relationship work?

Jeff - As of right now, we have no management or booking agent, and I am doing all of our bookings myself here in the Las Vegas, Los Angeles regions.

In 2001, Jeff was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, as well as Crohn's disease. He had gotten sick, and was rushed to the hospital to have emergency surgery, to which he actually died for almost three minutes on the operating table. The Doctors removed all but six inches of his large intestine. He then underwent 4 more surgeries, and still continues to deal with both of these diseases today.

Jeff met and started playing in the band Liquid Skye with Robbie and Cory, from 1998 until 2004, and he relocated to Tucson in 2006, to which we all reconnected with Robbie and Cory driving out to Tucson to do a show with in 2010, and the band got a distribution deal in 2018, while still in Tucson. In October of 2017. The band leader flew out to Vegas to shoot his first video and record the band's first release on Potomac- (Never Be Another You) with Robbie, and a local drummer just for the recording, but shot the video in the same week as he recorded the song, so because of that, as well as Jeff and his wife were ready to come back to Vegas. They moved back out from Tucson to Vegas in June of 2018.

"I moved back to Vegas, and Cory was available as well as Mike our drummer (he played in a previous band here in Vegas with Cory and the band broke up a month or so before I moved back as luck would have it), so Cory was freed up along with Mike and everything basically just fell together. I felt I now had my second chance"...

The band has also been recently signed with new management Big Noise Now (Alice Cooper, The Beach Boys, Christina Aguilera, Red Hot Chilli Peppers), and is working with Guitarz Forever Music Mktg. & Promotion (Shrapnel Records, George Lynch, Eric Gales, Paul Gilbert) to give this new album the push it needs to help get the band on some major summer festivals.

Scott - Does your band tour?

Jeff - Do we tour...not yet...but again, we are doing shows in the West Coast, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Arizona regions. Eventually, when we get tour support, ie. from a major label, we will absolutely tour, and we can't wait for that day! Lol!

Scott - Where do you all hail from? Are there any good music venues in your area that you play live?

Jeff - I'm originally from Springfield, Missouri, Robbie Wolfe is from Los Angeles, California, Cory Kay is from Orange County, and Mike Mitlying is from Las Vegas.  The venues we enjoy playing locally as well as in Los Angeles is Count's Vamp'd-(Las Vegas), House Of Blues-(Las Vegas), The Whisky A Go Go-(Los Angeles).

Scott - Who have been your main influences on your career to date?

Jeff - Our main influences are Journey, Def Leppard, Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Tesla, Styx, (Early)Bon-Jovi, Daughtry, Motley Crue-(John Corabi), Red Sun Rising, E.L.O.Elvis Presley, U.F.O., Whitesnake, Blue Murder, Night Ranger, Early Ozzy with Randy Rhoads, REO Speedwagon with Gary Richrath only.

The releasing of the new E.P. "Second Chance" is material that will connect with rock audiences everywhere who loved the 70's and 80's classic rock scene. Jeff the spokesman for the band... along with Robbie Wolfe his guitar player are kind of like Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora says the vocalist. The band's no nonsense high energy straight ahead rock music is built around our killer rock and roll live performances.

"Some of the highlights on the album are the way my vocals came out. I give Robbie Wolfe all the credit in that department. He is a genius in not only arranging, but layering vocal harmonies, adding different parts such as strings, and adding different harmonies to the chorus. Robbie also writes great lead guitar solos that you can actually hum, almost like another vocal-line to play to the song and to make it as good as it can be."

Scott - What were your favorite recording artists and or bands as a teenager?

Jeff - Our favorite bands as teenagers were Journey, REO Speedwagon with Gary Richrath only, Def Leppard, Styx, Telsa, Great White-(Jack Russell only), Kiss, E.L.O. Billy Squier, Badlands, Toto, Ozzy, Night Ranger, Loverboy, Dokken, (Early)Bon-Jovi.

Scott - Do you have any current music that you are promoting?

Jeff - We are currently promoting our brand new E.P. "Second Chance" that was released on Tuesday, August 6th of this year.  We also have 3 singles out called "Never Be Another You', "So Long", and "Screamin' Inside" that are out as well.

Scott - I also don't want to forget this... Tell us about any other things you may be in involved in or any special interest besides music that is close to your heart?

Jeff - The band is one big family, and we're all four very happy with being dads for our kids, and husbands for our wives, so when we do get together not only to play, but to have get together parties with the wives and kids, it truly is a great time and a blessing that we've found each other, to be blessed enough to not only write, record and perform great music, but to have lifelong friendships that don't happen every day.

Scott - Jeff, I would like to thank you for your time and candor with our loyal readers and keep on fighting the good fight to bring us some awesome music.

Jeff - I hope that kinda answers your questions Scott! Thank-you for all of your time and effort in helping me achieve my dreams bro! :)!
