Guitarist Steve Purcell Interview
Scott - Thank you for agreeing to do an interview w/ my website Guitarz Forever.com
Steve - Thank you for having me Mr. Scott
Scott - How would describe the type of music that you play?
Steve - That's a tough question. I like & play most styles of music from Hard Rock, Country, Blues, Acoustic/Folk, even a little Jazz. Also, I like to play Instrumentals as well as Vocal songs. But if i had to say, I'd say I'm somewhere between Andy Timmons & Joe Bonamassa
Scott – Steve, tell us a little bit about yourself and the musicians playing on your new album.
Steve - As a Performer, I've been staying busy with the Ron Keel Band fronted by Ron Keel (Steeler, KEEL, Black Sabbath), who has had record sells of over three million.
While a member of the Band I performed with Paul Stanley (Kiss), Jack Blades (Night Ranger), Don Dokken (Dokken), Stephen Pearcy (Ratt), Kip Winger (Winger), Mark Slaughter (Slaughter), Dave Ellefson (Megadeth), & many more.
I've been involved in the music business from a young age performing, writing, recording, studio work, etc.
Based out of Nashville, I've been on the road in the bands of many major & indie label country & rock artists.
I've played with, or shared the stage with, many national acts, such as Foghat, Montgomery Gentry, Night Ranger, Carrie Underwood, Josh Turner, Skid Row, Mark Chesnutt, Darryl Worley, Asia, Little Big Town, Pat Travers, Trace Atkins, Mark Wills, David Lee Murphy, Marty Stuart, David Allan Coe, Craig Morgan, Big & Rich, Hank Williams Jr., Chad Brock, The Outlaws, Trini Triggs, Celinda Pink, Jeff Bates, Sawyer Brown, & many more.
I am lucky to have an impressive array of world-class guest musicians on my solo CD Ample'tudes. Such as Dave Gant (Garth Brooks), Ron Keel (KEEL, Black Sabbath), Dobro Session & Bluegrass Great Randy Kohrs, Eugene Moles (Merle Haggard, Buck Owens) & many more.
Scott - What is the name of your latest album and how did that album come about? What was the inspiration behind it?
Steve - My solo Album is called Ample'tudes, I have always wanted to do a guitar-driven solo CD with vocal songs as well as Instrumental music too.
Last year I finally got the opportunity to do just that. It's been a long time coming.
Scott - Where do you all hail from? Are there any good music venues in your area that you play live?
Steve - I'm based out of Nashville, TN. but have lived in many other places, including L.A. for two years.
There are some great places to play here but with the Covid-19 still going on it's pretty tough to play anywhere right now. Hopefully Soon.!
Scott - Why the music biz?
Steve - I was born into the music business, most of my male family members are either in the music industry or musicians themselves.
Scott - Why the guitar?
Steve - Besides Ace Frehley & KISS I think it was probably because my Dad played guitar, so growing up there was always one around & my dad was always playing.
Scott - Are you a schooled guitar player or a self-taught guitar player?
Steve - I am Both. I started out as self taught then took some lessons later on. Then I Graduated from GIT - Musicians Institute.
Scott - What type of amps and effects are you using while playing live?
Steve - For most live playing situations I'll use my 65 Reissue blackface fender Deluxe Reverb combo amp with a small pedalboard of an overdrive pedal, boost pedal, mxr phase 90, reverb pedal & tuner.
Scott - Who have been your main influences on your career to date?
Steve - My main influences have been Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel, George Lynch, Gary Moore, Ace Frehley, Dave Meniketti, Steve Trovato, Paul Gilbert.
Scott - What are your favorite recording artists and or bands?

Scott - I also don't want to forget this... Tell us about any other things you may be in involved in or any special interest besides music that is close to your heart?
Steve - I've been involved with The Ron Keel Band & have been lucky to play on their last two albums (Fight like a Band, & South X South Dakota)
I'm also going back to the studio to record an EP. Music & my family are what I hold closest to my heart.
