Guitarist Eric Gales Interview:
Scott > Hi Eric, How are you doing these days?
Eric > I’m fine, staying very busy these days which is a great thing.
Scott > What’s the genesis for the NEW "Ghost Notes" Album?
Eric > Me and Mike Varney sat down and realized that I’ve never put an instrumental album out, so we both felt it was a good idea and this way I could expand more on the different styles that I like creating.
Scott > How do You know Mike Varney at the Shrapnel Records Group Label?
Eric > Signed with a deal with him 2005 and has been putting an album out each year after.
Scott > Give us a run down of the musicians that are playing on the CD.
Eric > Nick Hayes is the drummer and Orlando Thompson is the bassist... Both are from North Carolina
Scott > How do you come up with your songs?
Eric > Jamming, and hearing riffs in my head and building from that.
Scott > Tell me what it is that spoke to you about this project.
Eric > Something being different, and wanted to collaborate on more outlets that I know I can tap into to... I felt it was time.
Scott > Are there plans to tour?
Eric > Yes, we are currently touring now. (Which can be seen on my website, http://www.ericgalesband.com)
Scott > Are you a schooled guitar player or a self-taught guitar player?
Eric > Self, but along the way gained some school knowledge.
Scott > Did You develop your style by ear or by messing around on the neck playing what sounded cool to you?
Eric > Both, and everything in between.
Scott > I was wondering if you ever hear music in your dreams and turn them into songs?
Eric > Yes, I have.
Scott > How often when you start an idea for song, does it actually get finished?
Eric > 75% of the time.
Scott > So then, tell me a little bit of what you’ve learned about human nature during this new production.
Eric > What I’ve learned about human nature is that at the end of the day it is going to be exactly what it is and fortunately, I haven’t come out disappointed when it comes to my music.
Scott > What are your personal highlights on the new album?
Eric > Having a chance to do a instrumental album was the highlight for me, along with some cats that are from where I now reside..
Scott > How did you first get into the music business?
Eric > Being in a band with my oldest brother, Eugene Gales.
Scott > What is it like playing on a Jimi Hendrix tour with other great musicians like Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang, Billy Cox and Eric Johnson ?
Eric > A dream come true.
Scott > Who have been your main influences on your career to date?
Eric > Robert Trower, Eric Johnson, Frank Marino, gospel and varies other genres of other styles of music.
Scott > What's it like grooving and hanging with bassist Dug Pinnick (Kings X) and drummer Thomas Pridgen (The Mars Volta) and how did "Pinnick Gales Pridgen" music come about?
Eric > The best, they are two top notch players and great to be in their company.. Peter Morticelli and Mike Varney discussed putting a supergroup together and we were their pick.
Scott > How has your guitar playing evolved over the years?
Eric > Man, it’s constantly evolving in my everyday life.
Scott > What are you listening to these days?
Eric > Everything, when I say everything that’s exactly what I mean.
Scott > What musical gear and endorsements do you have and why? And, tell us about the new St. Blues Eric Gales model Blindsider Guitar.
Eric > Two Rock Amps, I love the way they sound. St. Blues Guitars and Magneto Guitars, I love the way they both play. Laboga Cabinets, It’s a different sound than the Two Rock but I like it.
Scott > Do You have a dream car?
Eric > Range Rover.
Scott > I also don't want to forget this... Tell us about any other things you may be in involved in or any special interest besides music that is close to your heart?
