Guitarist Alex Grossi Interview

“Alex Grossi is the most gifted young guitar player I have heard since the first time I heard Randy Rhoads in 1975” – Kevin DuBrow / QUIET RIOT

ALEX GROSSI has been called one of the hardest working and most sought after rock guitarists in the country. Upon finishing high school in 1996 he immediately left small town Connecticut for the bright lights of Boston and hasn’t looked back since...

Scott - Hi Alex, thank you for agreeing to do an interview w/ my website Guitarz What's been up with you over the last year? Can you give us some cool highlights?

Alex - Thanks Scott, QUIET RIOT has a lot of shows on the books for 2017 already, as we never stop working - The Quiet Riot documentary, Well Now You're Here, There Is No Way Back, has been in active rotation on Showtime for a couple of years now. You can check it out at I’m so proud to be a part of such an iconic heavy metal band's continuing history.

I have also been doing gig with 'HOOKERS & BLOW" - A fun cover band that Dizzy Reed of GUNS N' ROSES and I do whenever we are off....
Give our readers a short but descriptive label for your style of music.

Myself and American Idol finalist James Durbin recently announced a new collaboration called "Maps to the Hollywood Scars", which was released last week (February 17), It sheds light on the darker side of Hollywood and the music industry - I don't put labels on music, that's your job ; ) - It can be found online at:

"Till Death" Featuring Dizzy Reed of GUNS N' ROSES VIDEO:

What are your personal highlights on the new music?

I think I speak for both James and myself when I say that the biggest highlight is that we are soley responsible for it - Both the positive and negative, which is very satisying and exciting.
So Alex, tell me a little bit of what you’ve learned about "human nature" during making this new production.

I have learned that sometimes over-thinking things and letting producers and label dictate what you do or don't do can stifle what may end being great if you just go with it - be it a tone, guitar solo, lyric etc....The "Human" creative element is something that an iPad will never be able to replace, it can enhance it, , but nothing will ever replace raw emotion and ideas.
What type of guitars do you play and why?

2017 will be my 20th year as a PRS endorser. I’ll never play anything else. They can take a beating on tour and still sound great in the studio the next morning. I am also really digging the new Mooer pedals. They’re tiny but sound as good if not better than pedals eight times their size.

What type of amps do you use? Do you use different amps for the studio vs live shows... If so, why?

My preferred amp is the PRS Archon. It encompasses what I believe every amp should be. It can go from crystal clean to full-blown high-gain rock without losing clarity. I did the entire new record with a 1x12 25-watt Archon combo, and it didn't miss a beat.

What are you listening to these days?

Mixes of our next batch of songs ! ; )
I also don't want to forget this... Tell us about any other things you may be in involved in or any special interest besides music that is close to your heart?

I really love animals, I have 2 teacup Chiuauhas -- they are like my kids !
