7th Chords

7th Chords by Rob Metz

A major scale consists of 7 notes. Chords are built from these notes. The key of A major is A Bm C#m D E F#m and G#m7b5. There are 3 basic ways that each of these chords can be played as 7th chords. The 1st way is using a root note on the low E string, the 2nd is a root note on the A string and the 3rd is using a root note on the D string. I will play through these in the video to show you how you can practice them . Play them beginning on the low E string at the 5th fret for you’re a major 7 chord and progress through the key until you end . You should start from each step of the scale (begin with 1 ; A and the next time start with Bm the 2 and so on… ) You can do this exercise using 3 low E root note shapes, 3 A string root notes and 3 D string root notes.

"... we kept moving forward and didn't try to recreate the past .. the approach to each album was radically different every time. Many bands would have some success and, because they were locked into having a single - something we didn't have to worry about - they had to make sure there was something similar on the next album ... that was never the idea with Led Zeppelin .. the goal was to keep that spark of spontaneity at all times ..." - Jimmy Page - Led Zeppelin
